Women in Leadership: Spotlight on Kim Nash

Having started out as an Actuary, Managing Director of ZEDRA Governance, Kim Nash took a leap into the world of pension scheme governance with a commitment to influence positive outcomes for members. Hear from Kim on the power of relationships and the importance of diverse perspectives.

How did you get into the industry?

I began my career as a qualified Actuary, working on the adviser side to support Trustee clients. I later decided to transition to a role as a Trustee, leveraging my actuarial expertise to directly oversee the governance of pension schemes and focus on the protection of member outcomes.

Since joining ZEDRA in 2012 I have been appointed to the boards of numerous Defined Benefit, Defined Contribution and hybrid pension schemes, and in 2022 I took on the role of Managing Director of ZEDRA Governance.

What has been a key learning in your career?

The power of relationships. Strong relationships form a foundation for trust and collaboration with colleagues, clients and industry peers.

By building and maintaining connections, you can foster a culture of mutual respect and understanding that will set you up for long term success, whatever your goals may be.

What would you say to someone considering a career in your industry?

A career in the pensions industry, particularly as a Professional Trustee, offers a unique opportunity to genuinely add value and make meaningful changes to member outcomes.

It is an interesting and rewarding role that makes a tangible difference, with great opportunities for personal growth and career progression.

What are the opportunities and challenges you’re seeing in the industry?

The UK pensions industry is in desperate need of greater diversity to ensure all members are fairly considered, and that optimal decisions are being made on their behalf.

Bringing a different perspective adds genuine value to trustee boards, and although change is underway, I’d like to see increasing diversity on our boards and among advisers.
