The Money Laundering Compliance Officer plays a key role in proactively assisting the effectiveness of the business’s financial crime and sanction controls.

The MLCO is also essential to ensuring the Business operates within ZEDRA’s stated risk appetite, evidencing compliance with relevant regulatory and legal financial crime obligations. In doing so, the MLCO contributes to the Business with confidence in the quality and longevity of its strategic, commercial and operational successes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support all regulatory and law enforcement reporting obligations relating to financial crime matters, ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant submissions.
  • Act as a key support function and secondary point of contact for the business, working closely with the Head of Compliance to provide practical, risk-based guidance and informed advice, both in formal governance forums and on day-to-day ad hoc queries.
  • Assist in the investigation of suspicious activities and transactions, contributing to the preparation and submission of STORs, SARs, and other regulatory filings in line with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the implementation of ZEDRA’s Group Financial Crime Policy and related compliance standards locally, including assisting with training delivery, reporting, and maintaining oversight of operational processes, procedures, and outcomes under the direction of the Head of Compliance.
  • Actively support the Head of Compliance in overseeing the firm’s financial crime risk framework, ensuring alignment with ZEDRA’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to client risk assessments and, where required, support robust, independent decision-making, including exercising appropriate challenge to ensure adherence to Group standards.
  • Assist in overseeing the effectiveness of customer due diligence (CDD), screening, and transaction monitoring frameworks, ensuring that appropriate records are maintained to evidence compliance with financial crime regulations and internal policies.
  • Provide informed, risk-based input and support decision-making processes, enabling the business to operate confidently within its risk appetite and meet regulatory obligations.
  • Support the timely escalation of material risks, incidents, or control weaknesses to the Local Head of GRC, in coordination with the Head of Compliance.
  • Identify gaps or weaknesses in the control environment and support the development and implementation of appropriate remediation actions, providing ongoing guidance to the business during remediation efforts.
  • Assist in reviewing and validating the closure of remediation actions to ensure that issues have been effectively and sustainably resolved.
  • Support the Head of Compliance in ensuring that all staff receive appropriate financial crime training, helping to promote awareness and understanding of AML, CTF, and sanctions obligations across the business.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Demonstrate the ability to support engagement with Senior Management and governance forums, contributing to reporting, risk insights, and informed decision-making under the direction of the Head of Compliance.
  • Experience in supporting the oversight of financial crime and sanctions risks, including contributing to regulatory and legal obligations related to the prevention, identification, management, and reporting of such risks, is advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of:

o Anti Money Laundering / Counter-Terrorist Financing requirements including eID&V, CDD, UBO analysis, KYC / KYT; Source of Wealth / Source of Funds
o Sanctions screening
o Transaction monitoring
o Anti-Bribery and Corruption
o Financial crime reporting experience (STOR / SAR / sanctions / other)
o Relevant regulatory frameworks, codes, best practices and guidance

  • A recognised professional qualification and ongoing CPD is required.
