ZEDRA’s Manchester-based Trust & Corporate Manager, Reena Nirula, reflects on her rewarding career in trust and corporate services, highlighting the importance of staying open to opportunity along the way.

How did you get into the industry?

I completed a law degree and followed it with a STEP qualification, which opened the door to the world of trust and corporate services. It was a natural progression that allowed me to apply my legal training in a more commercial context.

What has been a key learning in your career?

A major lesson I’ve learned is that my career advancement has been shaped by my own efforts. Taking ownership of your path, being proactive, and saying yes to opportunities can make all the difference. Even small steps forward can have a big cumulative impact over time.

What would you say to someone considering a career in your industry?

Be open and flexible, have a genuine desire to learn, and the confidence to step out of your comfort zone. This is a people-driven industry as much as it is a technical one, so curiosity, communication, and adaptability will take you far. Every challenge you face helps build the skills and perspective you’ll carry forward on your career journey.

What are the opportunities and challenges you’re seeing in the industry?

Opportunities are there for those ready to step up and embrace greater responsibility. The real challenge is making sure that ambition doesn’t come at the cost of your wellbeing. A long, fulfilling career depends on finding the right balance between your professional growth and your personal life.
