Women in Leadership: Spotlight on Narleen Daantje-Herah
Narleen Daantje-Herah, Fund Account Manager at ZEDRA Curaçao, shares how an unexpected opportunity shaped her career, the lessons she has learned along the way, and her advice for those considering a future in the industry.
How did you get into the industry?
It was pure coincidence. I initially applied for an accounting role and was turned down. But while working as a receptionist, I was asked to assist with urgent accounting bookings. The colleagues I supported quickly realized I had a talent for accounting. That moment changed everything.
What has been a key learning in your career?
From day one, I learned never to compare your journey to anyone else’s. Everyone’s path is different, and comparison only distracts you from your own growth.
Focus on what you are called to do, stay committed, and keep learning. Every experience adds to your knowledge and builds your confidence. And as you progress, make sure to empower others along the way.
What would you say to someone considering a career in your industry?
Use every resource available to learn as much as you can. Retain what you learn because those lessons become the foundation for your future.
This is not always a smooth journey, so it takes courage and resilience to overcome challenges and keep moving forward. But if you are willing to put in the effort, the rewards are worth it.
What are the opportunities and challenges you’re seeing in the industry?
Opportunities for growth are countless, but you must be willing to create them and prove you deserve them. While the industry offers room to advance, initiative and persistence are key to progression.
The biggest challenge is achieving the perfect work-life balance. It’s something many professionals strive for, and it requires conscious effort to manage both personal and professional priorities.
