Women in Leadership: Spotlight on Charlotte Hultman

Charlotte Hultman, ZEDRA’s Group Head of Go-To-Market Strategy, shares her career journey from private banking to corporate and fund services, and the lessons that shaped her approach to complexity, governance, and innovation.

How did you get into the industry?

My introduction to the industry came during my time in private banking in Luxembourg with Danske Bank. As a wealth and tax planner, I supported clients with trust, foundation, and holding company setups to facilitate asset protection and estate planning.

After five years in banking, I transitioned into the corporate and fund services sector, where I could apply that experience on a broader scale.

What has been a key learning in your career?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that less is more. I’ve worked with private equity and real estate managers to establish highly complex structures, often resembling a Christmas tree of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) across multiple jurisdictions.

While these arrangements can appear efficient, they frequently lead to governance challenges and increased operational costs. My advice to corporate and fund managers is to focus on one jurisdiction at a time and ensure you have the resources to maintain genuine activity wherever your assets or operations are located.

Engage a professional services firm to guide you through the process and consider outsourcing operational tasks until you have built your own internal infrastructure. Ultimately, my key takeaway is simple: substance can never be outsourced.

What would you say to someone considering a career in your industry?

This is a service-driven industry. Whether you’re client-facing in sales or working behind the scenes in operations, success depends on a genuine desire to help clients achieve their ambitions. Being proactive, selfless, and anticipating clients’ needs are essential qualities for anyone looking to excel.

What are the opportunities and challenges you’re seeing in the industry?

The biggest challenge is keeping pace with technology and AI while preserving a strong client experience and the value of human interaction. Technology is essential, but it can only take a firm so far – finding the right balance between innovation and the human touch is key.

At the same time, the industry offers endless opportunities. Clients’ needs are evolving rapidly, and new services are emerging all the time. By thinking creatively and staying open to innovation, providers can stay ahead of the competition and drive accelerated growth.
