Junior Accountant (J1-Trainee, French Speaking)

The Junior Accountant is responsible for assisting with the daily accounting operations of our clients. They support the Senior Accountants and/or Managers on all aspects of client’s projects (including bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, cash situation, monthly and quarterly reporting).
This is a fixed-term, 18-month trainee position (J-1 Visa)
Salary range for this position is $50,000 – $55,000
Key Accountabilities
Client Relationship
- Assist management with Clients’ interactions: phone, emails
- Manage clients’ requests according to priorities and time available
- Answer questions in a timely manner
Accounting and Bookkeeping
- Book AP and follow approval procedures and US GAAP; most clients are on an accrual basis therefore cut-off procedures must be respected
- Cut checks for vendors after approval for payment has been received, prepare mailing, ensure adequate documents are included with payments; book manual payments when necessary
- Book expense reports and control receipts versus amounts claimed on expense reports; report to supervisor anything unusual or questionable
- Prepare client’s invoices according to specific instructions provided by client when required, and book AR
- Review cash deposits made by client or Office Manager and book payments in AR ledger
- Book payroll
- Maintain assets file, with a copy of the invoice and copy of the entry
- File all documents, according to description provided, tax, legal, AP
- Prepare documents to be returned when fiscal year is over and tax return has been completed
Reporting and Tax
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly and year-end financial statements as well as reporting package for foreign parent company
- Manage bank, cash situation, and general ledger reconciliation
- Process month-end closings
- Ensure that transactions are properly supported and classified in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles
- Provide necessary information for corporate tax returns prepared internally or externally
Knowledge and Experience
- The J-1 Trainee program is open to foreign nationals who have either a degree or professional certificate from a foreign post-secondary academic institution and at least one year of related prior work experience in their occupational field acquired outside the United States
- Complete fluency in both English and French is required
- A college degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or a related field
- A minimum of 2 years of public accounting or financial reporting experience
- Sage 50 and client’s internal online software (Quickbooks, Navision, SAP, Netsuite, etc.)
