Women in Leadership: Spotlight on Flora Nachawati
ZEDRA’s Luxembourg-based Senior Client Development Manager, Flora Nachawati, reflects on her journey into finance, the key lessons that have shaped her career, and the guidance she offers to those exploring opportunities in the industry.
How did you get into the industry?
After completing my studies in finance, I began working in banking, taking on different roles to understand where my interests and strengths lay. Since I was a teenager, I knew I wanted to work in the finance industry, and those early experiences helped me define the path that felt right for me.
What has been a key learning in your career?
Teamwork is essential to success. I’ve seen us reach ambitious targets through strong collaboration and by leveraging the strengths of every team member. It’s also one of the best ways to support more junior colleagues and share knowledge across the team.
Another key lesson has been understanding how to navigate what we need from others within the organisation and what we need to deliver for colleagues.
Managing expectations effectively, both internally and externally, is critical to ensuring we all work toward the same goal: serving our clients well and enabling the business to succeed.
What would you say to someone considering a career in your industry?
First, I would recommend taking time to reflect on why you want to join the industry. Think about what you enjoy and where your strengths lie, as there are so many different roles available. This will help you define your direction.
I would also suggest finding a mentor in the industry who can share their experiences, best practices, opportunities, and challenges.
And importantly, many roles in finance are ultimately about serving clients. Anyone considering a career in the industry should enjoy working with people and be naturally client‑focused.
What are the opportunities and challenges you’re seeing in the industry?
There are many opportunities in the industry for people who want to develop their careers, especially if they are motivated to keep learning and growing.
In Luxembourg, roles in finance often open up as people move between firms. This creates good opportunities for those early in their careers to enter the market, gain experience, and establish themselves.
At the same time, this mobility can make talent retention more challenging for businesses, which is why having the right culture and a strong sense of being “one team” is so important to a company’s success.
Notably, young women can face challenges in the industry. It can happen that they are not always seen as knowledgeable or trustworthy, even when they are. My advice would be to stay confident, demonstrate your capabilities, and continue building your expertise.
